Nathan Lockhart moves into a waiting room of the small health care facility where his father was residing. He was visiting his father, Mortimer Rockwell, when he flatlined. While the doctor and nurses tried their best, Mortimer passed away. Nathan feels like he was punched in his stomach; seeing his father die in front of him was not something that he expected. Seeing his father so weak, so fragile, was hard enough, but to see him take his last breath is almost too much.

He covers his mouth as he feels his eyes swell with water. "My father," he whispers to himself. "Gone, forever."

"Nathan," a voice calls out from behind him. He slowly turns around and sees Lydia standing in the waiting room. She rushes up to him and hugs him tightly. "I came as soon as I could. What happened? How is Mortimer?"

Nathan shakes his head as they exit their embrace. "He…he's gone," Nathan reveals to her as Lydia gasps back to him in surprise.

"I…I don't understand," Lydia admits to him. "I just saw him? How did this happen?"

"I wish I knew," a distraught Nathan replies to her. "I was talking to him and the next thing I knew, doctors and nurses came rushing in and…he passed."

"I am so sorry that you had to see that," Lydia looks back at him before she gulps heavily. "I…I have to ask you something, and I need you to be honest with me."

Nathan uneasily nods back to her. "I am so raw right now, Lydia. I don't think I could lie to you even if I tried."

"Okay," Lydia squeezes his hand. "You and Mortimer, you and your family, you've had so many ups and downs. And, you recently came into power with Mortimer's power of attorney…"

"What are you asking me, Lydia? What is it that you're suggesting?"

"I'm not suggesting anything," Lydia quickly replies to him. "But I must ask, did you … did you kill your father? Are you the reason that Mortimer is dead?"

Stacey Rockwell and Kent Blackmore continue to look at one another as the stand in the living room of the guesthouse that she lives in that is on the grounds of the Rockwell mansion. They have been talking about their relationship, which has been turned upside down thanks to his marriage to Vivian Blackmore, which Stacey suggested when she was her death bed. Furthermore, Stacey slept with Houston Blackmore and once Kent learned this, he made love to his new wife.

"I am tired of going around in circles with this," Stacey sighs back to him. "We continue to blame one another for the situation, it's not healthy for either of us Kent."

"I don't want to blame you for anything," Kent replies to her as he puts his hands in his pocket. "I came here today because I wanted to see how we can move from this. This situation has become so complicated."

"I'm tired Kent," she repeats herself. "You are married to Vivian because of me, and she wants you to have a real marriage, so that's what you should do."

"But what about us? You still care for me, I know you do."

"Sometimes it's not enough," Stacey feels her eyes swell with water. "This is one of those cases."

"So, that's it? You want me to be with Vivian and what, you'll go back to my son? You'll be with Houston?" Kent asks her quickly.

"I don't know what my future holds," Stacey admits to him. "But I do know that you and I, we can't be together. Not now, not ever. We are over Kent, this time for good."

Nathan looks back at Lydia in surprise as they stand in the waiting room of the care center where Mortimer just passed away. He can't believe that she would ask him if he killed his own father; everyone knows that they had a rocky relationship, but to actually kill his own father?

"I don't know what to say," Nathan responds to her after a moment of silence. "You really believe that I killed my own father?"

"I didn't say that," Lydia tells him. "I just asked you a question. I didn't mean to offend you. You must understand, you and Mortimer, you have a long and very sorted history, Nathan. And you just came into this power…I won't apologize for where my mind went."

"I suppose that is fair," Nathan says back to her. "But for the record, I didn't kill Mortimer. I had nothing to do with his death. I just happened to be with him when he passed away."

Lydia grabs his hand and squeezes it. "I believe you, Nathan," she tells him as she pulls him into a hug. "I am sorry that you had to go through that."

"Thanks," Nathan whispers back to her. "Now, we have to gather the family; I have to tell them what happened."

"Are you sure you're ready for that?" Lydia asks him. "If I had questions, you know they will."

"I'm as ready as I will ever be," Nathan nods back to her. "The sooner they find out, the better off we will all be."

A short time later, the Rockwell family gathers in the living room of the mansion as they wait for Lydia and Nathan to arrive. Cole Rockwell passes his grandmother, Lucinda Rockwell, a brandy before he sits next to her.

"I wish mother would have been clearer about what this important meeting was all about," Lexington Rockwell admits as he turns around from looking out into the garden. "We all had to drop everything to be here."

"I am sure it is important if we were all summoned," Stacey tells her brother. "But I agree, a heads up would have been nice."

"I am sure your mother has her reasons," Mac tells his children. "And I just heard the front door open, so we won't be kept in suspense for much longer."

"Oh good, you're all here," Lydia announces to the family as she and Nathan move into the living room. "Nathan has something to tell you."

"Levi? What is it? Has something happened?" a concerned Lucinda asks him as she stands up and looks at her son, who looks distraught still.

Nathan gulps and looks back at Lucinda before he looks over at Mac and then his nephews and niece. He doesn't know how he is going to tell them that Mortimer is gone; for so long, Mortimer has been sick, but deep down, they all had hope that, maybe, he would get better, and things would return to the normal that they knew as they grew up. Now, all of that hope that they were holding on too will be taken from them and they will never get it back. The family dynamic has, officially, changed forever.

"There's no easy way to say this," Nathan whispers back to the family. "But…it's about Mortimer."

"Father?" Mac asks him as Lydia moves over to Nathan and grabs his hand. "I have plans to see him tomorrow."

"That won't be necessary," Nathan looks back at his brother. "I…I just came from the facility. He's…he's gone," Nathan reveals to everyone.

"What do you mean, he's gone? Where did the doctors move him?" Lucinda asks him quickly. "Damnit, Levi! I told you, not to do anything rash with his medical care! What have you done?"

"I didn't do anything," Nathan whispers back to her as a tear falls down his cheek. "When I say he's gone, I mean…he's …. He's dead. Mortimer is dead."

"No," Lucinda shakes her head as tears fill her eyes. "No, that can't be! This can't be happening!"

Mac moves up to Lucinda and they embrace, while the Rockwell children look at one another in surprise. "I'm…I'm so sorry," Nathan whispers to his family. "I am so sorry…"

***

A short time later, Lucinda moves to the bar in the study of the Rockwell mansion and pours herself a scotch. She is numb from the news that Mortimer has passed away. She has known, for years, that he wasn't well, but still, the fact that he is gone, forever, is hitting her hard. She had always hoped that he would get well enough to come home one more time; the fact that he spent so many of his last years in the hospital room doesn't seem fair to her. He was always such a strong, bold man and for so many years, she loved him with every fiber of her being.

She takes a long sip of her scotch and closes her eyes as a tear falls down her cheek. "Oh Morti," she whispers to herself. "I can't believe that it's over. I can't believe that you're gone and never coming back."

She takes another sip of her drink. "Did I do the right thing by divorcing you? Did I break your heart so much that you…" she gasps for some air. "Died? My God, what did I do?"

Behind Lucinda, the door to the study opens and Dane Ashby appears. "Lucinda," he calls out as she closes her eyes at the sound of his voice. "Mac called me and informed me about Mortimer. I'm…I am sorry for your loss."

"Thank you," Lucinda responds to him without turning around to face.

"What can I do? How can I help right now?" Dane asks her as he moves up to her and puts his hand on her shoulder, which causes her to shudder a little. "You know that I am here for you."

Another tear falls down Lucinda's cheek as she sets her glass down on the bar. "I…I just need time alone, Dane. Please give me some time and space?"

"I don't want you to be alone right now," Dane tells her. "You need to lean on me."

"I said, I need time alone!" Lucinda raises her voice at him, which catches him off guard. "Please respect my privacy right now!"

"Okay," Dane nods as he moves away from her. He pauses once he gets to the door and looks back at his fiancé. "But I am here for you Lucinda. You can push me away all you want, but I am here when you're ready."

Another tear falls down Lucinda's cheek as she picks up her glass again and finishes the scotch.

"Dad, can we get you anything?" Cole asks Mac, who is sitting on the sofa in the living room of the Rockwell mansion with his hands over his face. Cole looks over at Stacey and then Lex in concern as he hasn't seen his father look this distraught before.

Mac sits still for a moment. His mind is racing with so many memories with his father; everything that he has done at Rockwell Mining was because of Mortimer's mentorship and guidance. He learned so much about how to run the organization from his father. Beyond business, he learned how to be a good, caring father to his children because of how Mortimer treated him. He knows that they had their share of disagreements, but deep-down Mortimer and Mac loved one another very much. He is struggling to accept that he will never have the chance to talk or see his father again.

"Dad, please give us a sign that you're okay," Stacey moves closer to the sofa and sits next to him. "We are worried about you."

Mac finally removes his hands from covering his face. He looks over Cole, then Stacey and finally at Lex with his red, damp eyes. "I'm…I don't know how I am."

"It is okay to be upset," Lex replies to his father. "We all know how close you and grandfather were."

"It feels surreal," Mac admits to his children. "I mean, we all knew how sick he was, but the idea of never seeing him again or having a conversation with him," he tries not to get choked up, but he feels his eyes swell with more water. "It's too much to bear."

"We are here for you," Cole puts his arm around Mac, while Stacey does the same and Lex moves closer to the sofa and puts his hand on Mac's leg. "We are all right here, Dad."

"I know you are," Mac tries to put a smile on his face. "I love you guys, more than you'll ever know."

***

Upstairs in the mansion, Nathan slowly opens the door to his bedroom and moves inside. He feels raw from telling the Rockwell's about Mortimer's passing and he realized that he needed some time alone to get his emotions in check.

The look on Lucinda's face after he told her about Mortimer keeps flashing in his mind; he has never seen his mother so devastated before. He knows that he and his mother haven't always been close, but he still hated seeing her in that state.

"The entire family is rocked," he whispers to himself as he loosens his tie while he moves to the bar. He pours himself a gin and takes a sip of it. "But I had to be the one to tell them; it was better that it came from me."

He takes another sip of his gin before he puts the glass back down. "I think a hot shower is in order; it might help me feel better."

He starts to undress and moves to the bed, where he sits on the edge and starts to take his shoes off.

"You….You killed Mortimer…" a whisper says as it fills the room.

Nathan bolts up and looks around the room. "Whose there? Who said that?" he asks in confusion. "Lydia?"

"You…you killed Mortimer…" the whisper says again as Nathan feels the blood drain from his face.

"This isn't funny!" he yells out in frustration. "I…I didn't do anything wrong!"

He looks under the bed but doesn't see anyone there. He moves to the closet but there is no one there. He takes a deep breath and realizes that the whispering has stopped.

"What's wrong with me?" he asks himself as he runs his hand through his hair. "I…I probably just need a good night's rest and I'll feel better tomorrow."

***

The following morning, the breakfast table in the Rockwell mansion is somber. Only Mac and Lucinda are still at the table, as the rest of the family ate quickly, or skipped the meal altogether. Mac looks at his mother, who hasn't touched her lox benedict but is holding her cup of coffee.

"Did you get any sleep at all last night?" Mac finally breaks the silence in the room.

Lucinda looks back at her son and shakes her head no. "I barely slept a wink," she admits to him. "How about you?"

"About the same," he admits to her. "I kept thinking about past times with father. The good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly."

Lucinda uneasily chuckles back to him. "You and I both," she reveals to him. "We have a lifetime of memories; I guess that is all we have left, huh?"

"No one can ever take our memories away from us mother," Mac replies to her quickly. "The times we shared with Dad, they will stay with us forever."

"I know," Lucinda tells him as she feels her eyes swell with water again. "I just wish…I just wish I had one more moment with him, you know? One more time to tell him that I love him. One more time to thank him for the life he has given us. One more time…"

"Don't dwell on that," Mac tells her as he grabs her hand and squeezes it. "Dad knew how much you loved him. Dad knew that you adored him."

"So much so that I divorced him so I could marry Dane."

"Mother, please," Mac pleads with her. "Don't beat yourself up. Dad would have wanted you to be happy and Dane, he makes you happy. You had put your life on hold for so long, Dad would have understood."

"You know what is haunting me, MacKenzie? The idea that my divorcing your father is what caused him to die," Lucinda's lower lip quivers. "Was ending our marriage the last straw that your father could handle? Am I the reason that he died?"

"No," Mac pulls her into a hug. "You know how sick he was; you are not to blame for this!"

"I know you mean well," Lucinda lets a tear fall down her cheek. "But I don't think anyone can convince me otherwise that this is all my fault."

"Thank you so much for taking the children this morning," Stacey tells her nanny as they talk on the phone. Stacey was still feeling emotional over the passing of her grandfather, so she asked her nanny to take her children, Drake and Poppy, to the zoo for the morning. She is hoping that she will be able to get her head on straight by the time they get home so she can focus on being there for them. "Please don't give them too much candy, and I will see you later this afternoon."

She hangs up the phone and then moves to the mantel by the fireplace, where she looks at a picture of her and the kids. She picks it up and smiles at the imagine before she sets it back down. "I do wish that you two would have been able to know your great grandfather. He would have adored you two, just like I do."

She freezes when she hears the doorbell ring to the guesthouse. She hopes that it is neither Kent or Vivian Blackmore; the last thing she needs today is to deal with the on-going drama of their current romantic situation. She sighs to herself before she moves to the door and opens it.

"Houston," Stacey says looking at Houston Blackmore. "I'm afraid Drake isn't here."

"That is fine," Houston replies to her as he moves into the living room. "I heard about Mortimer and I wanted to come see how you are doing. I know how much you cared about your grandfather."

"I am fine," Stacey tells him quickly. "I am more worried about Mac and Lucinda."

"Are you sure?" Houston asks her looking back at her. "If you need anything…"

"What I need," Stacey snaps at him. "Is for you to leave, Houston. I appreciate you checking in on me, but the last thing I need is to be around you or Kent right now. I need time and space away from this situation."

"I never meant to hurt you or cause you more confusion," Houston quickly tells her. "You know that only want the best for you."

"Ugh!" Stacey groans back to him. "I am so tired of everyone treating me like a child! I just need space to clear my head, is that so hard to understand?!"

"Stacey…are you okay?"

"I'm fine! I just need time and space! What part of that don't you understand?" Stacey shrieks back to him. "Please go, and don't come back until I invite you here!"

Houston gulps back to her, wondering if his former fiancé is closer to snapping than he thought.

Cole steps off the elevator at Rockwell Mining and makes a beeline for the main office. He is there so he can send a note out to the company that the family will be taking a few days to mourn the loss of Mortimer. He wanted to ensure he did this because he doesn't believe that Mac, or Nathan, are in the right headspace to handle it.

He opens the door to the office and freezes when he sees Celeste Baldwin sitting on the sofa. "Celeste, what are you doing here?"

Celeste stands up and fixes her skirt before she looks back at her former lover. "I heard about your grandfather," Celeste reveals to him. "I wanted to come and see how you are doing?"

"As you can see, I am fine."

"You don't fool me, Cole," Celeste replies to him quickly. "You have always kept your emotions locked up. Just know that I am still here, if you need me."

"Do you not remember our conversation from yesterday?" Cole asks her quickly. "I dolt you that we slept together as a way of me getting back at you for running Madison out of town."

"I remember," Celeste uneasily nods back to him. "And the fact is, the way you made love to me that night, and every time we have been together, is proof that you still care about me. Deep down, you still want me, and I know that. We have both hurt one another, Cole, but I can move past that. "And I won't let you go through this trying time alone."

"For God's sake," Cole sighs back to her. "You are relentless, do you know that? I need you to leave me alone, Celeste. That's what I want, that's what I need. Leave me, and my family, alone while we mourn the loss of Mortimer!"

"You've been quiet since you got here," Casper Ross tells Lex, who is sitting on the sofa in the hotel room that Casper is staying in. Casper knows that his lover is going through a difficult time right now because of Mortimer's death; he just hopes that Lex isn't keeping all of his feelings bottled up inside. "Want to talk about it?"

Lex looks up at Casper, who puts a tight white t-shirt on and then sits next to him. "I guess I am just thinking," he admits to Casper. "Thinking about my Dad and my grandmother and how they are feeling so down as a result of my grandfather's death."

"But how are you feeling?" Casper asks him. "You also lost a loved one, Lex. I don't want you to hide from your feelings."

Lex puts a smile on his face as he puts his hand on Casper's leg. "That's very sweet of you," he tells him. "But I am okay. If I am honest with you, I wasn't that close with my grandfather. You see, he got sick when I was pretty young; I don't have that many memories of him, other than going to the health facility to visit him with my parents."

"I am sorry about that," Casper replies to him. "That sounds like it might have been difficult for a young kid."

"I didn't know any better," Lex says. "That's why I am so worried about my Dad and Grandma; they are taking this very hard."

"You will be there for them," Casper nods to him. "You're good at being there for people when they need you."

"Thanks Casper," Lex locks eyes with him. "I really appreciate you getting me to open about this."

"Of course, babe," Casper winks back to him. "That's what boyfriends are for."

"We are boyfriends, aren't we?" Lex chuckles back to him. "With everything going on, I sort of forgot that we moved into that status."

"I will always remind you," Casper chuckles as he leans in and kisses Lex. "Because I'm not going anywhere."

Stacey sits at the bar in the country club with a vodka martini in front of her. After seeing Houston earlier, Stacey came to get a drink and try to clear her head. She has so many thoughts and feelings right now, but she knows that she needs to have time away from everyone to try to make sense of everything. She takes a long sip of her martini before she sets the glass back down on the bar.

"Stacey," a voice calls out from behind her.

Stacey turns and sees Kent moving towards her. "I heard about Mortimer; I am really sorry. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family right now."

Stacey gulps back to him as she recalls how she ended their relationship the previous day. It is part of the reason why she lost her cool with Houston earlier; combined with the emotions of losing Mortimer, she is feeling like she is on the brink.

"Thank you, Kent," Stacey finally responds to him. "I do appreciate that."

"I know that we ended things, but it doesn't mean that I don't still care," Kent replies to her. "I hope you know that."

"I…I do," Stacey uneasily nods back to him. "And for the record, I am sorry about how things have played out, Kent. I really am."

"And so am I," Kent replies to her. "More than you will ever know."

Lucinda moves into the living room of the Rockwell mansion and sees Nathan pouring himself a cup of coffee at the bar. She looks at him and immediately recalls how he told her, and the rest of the family, that Mortimer was dead. Lucinda can't help but wonder if there is more information that he hasn't revealed to her.

"Levi," she finally says something, which causes Nathan to look back at his mother. "We missed you at breakfast this morning."

"I don't think I could have eaten if I tried," he replies to her before he takes a sip of his coffee.

"I barely ate myself," she admits to him. "Do you mind if I ask you about your visit with Mortimer?"

"Of course," Nathan replies to her. "What do you want to know?"

"What happened when you visited him? Do you know what set him off that he flatlined?"

Nathan looks back at her in surprise. "What are you asking me, exactly, mother?"

"I want to know the details of your visit," Lucinda tells him quickly. "What did you say to Mortimer?"

"I don't believe this," Nathan hisses back at her. "You're asking me if I did something that killed my father? Do you really think that I could have killed him, mother?"

"Maybe not intentionally, but I know how you can get Levi!" Lucinda defends herself. "Please tell me what you said to him!"

"I said nothing that would have caused him to die," Nathan yells back at her. "I know you're grieving right now, but this line of questioning is completely uncalled for! In case you have forgotten, I am grieving too!"

"You had better hope that I don't find out that you did say or do something to Mortimer," Lucinda warns him. "Because, if I do, I will not be responsible for my actions!"

***

Mac slowly walks through the garden that is just outside the living room of the Rockwell mansion. As he looks at the rose bushes, his mind continues to replay various times with Mortimer.

"He always loved this time of year," Lydia's voice says as she comes up to her former husband. Mac turns and sees her and gets a sly grin on his face.

"You're right about that," Mac chuckles back to her. "Although, he hated when the garden wasn't maintained properly. I remember him scolding the gardener many times because the landscaping wasn't up to his standards."

Lydia giggles back to him. "He was always a very particular man, wasn't he?"

"Very much so."

"I know how much you loved your father," Lydia stops and looks at Mac. "This can't be easy for you, Mac. I know you are surrounded my family right now, but remember that I am also a part of your family, okay?"

"Thanks Lydia," Mac puts a smile on his face. "We have been through so much together, this is just another one of those events that we need to lean on one another."

***

Nightfall creeps into Kelsey Lake and after a long day, Nathan moves up the stairs towards his bedroom. He feels mentally and emotionally exhausted from the day, which was filled with mourning. Of course, he still reeling from Lucinda's suggestion that he might said something to Mortimer which caused him to flatline. This was after Lydia also suggested it the previous day. He has no idea why everyone would suspect that he could have killed his own father, but it is testing his patience. He knows that he has done some less than stellar things in the past, but to kill his own father?

"I am so tired of everyone thinking that I did something to Mortimer," he whispers to himself. "He was my father; I never would have killed him."

"You…you killed Mortimer!" the whispered voice echoes in the room again.

Nathan freezes at the sound of the voice talking to him. He turns around quickly but just sees the empty room. "Who is there? This isn't funny!"

"You killed your own father! You killed Mortimer!"

"No, I didn't!" Nathan yells out to the empty room. "I didn't kill Mortimer!"

"Murderer!" the whispers continue to haunt Nathan. "You killed Mortimer! And you're not going to get away with it! Murderer!"

"No!" Nathan cries to the room. "Please…please stop this! I…I didn't do anything!"

***

The following morning, the Rockwell family gathers in the living room as they wait for their lawyer to arrive as Mortimer's will is going to be read. Lucinda notices that Nathan has some rather large bags under his eyes, a sign that he must not have slept very well.

"Levi, you look exhausted," she says as she moves up to her son, who is pouring himself a cup of coffee. "How are you going to get through the reading of the will?"

Nathan takes a sip of his drink as he thinks about how he continued to hear that whispered voice in his bedroom throughout the night, which was telling him that he killed Mortimer. No matter how much he tried, he couldn't find anyone in the room that was talking to him. He doesn't know why he is hearing these voices, but he hopes that they go away soon.

"I might have to go have a nap after," he responds to his mother. "I didn't sleep at all last night. How about you?"

Lucinda uneasily shrugs back to him. "Better than the night before but still not great," she admits to him. "I think we are all going to have some rough nights in this upcoming days and weeks. Losing Mortimer, we will all be impacted by it."

"You can say that again," Mac says as he comes up to his mother and brother. "Maybe after the reading of the will, we can start to move on?"

"It will be a good first step," Lucinda whispers back to him. "Speaking of, there is Tanya Mills. She is going to read the will."

"Good morning everyone," Tanya says as she moves into the room. Tanya is in her early 40's and has long, auburn hair. She is wearing a cream-colored paint suit and is carrying a Chanel briefcase. She has been a lawyer for years, and has often worked with the Rockwell's with their many dealings. "I hope you're all ready for the reading of Mortimer's will. I reviewed it before I got here, so it will be pretty easy."

"We are as ready as we will ever be," Cole looks back at the lawyer. "The sooner we find out my grandfather's last wishes, the sooner we can start to put this ordeal behind us."

"It will come as no surprise that Mortimer is leaving the mansion to Lucinda," Tanya reveals to everyone. "In fact, both properties, this one, and the one Lucinda was living in previously, are left to Lucinda. She is also to receive all of Mortimer's pensions and his offshore accounts."

"Father wanted you to be taken care off," Mac looks back at Lucinda, who nods to him.

"To his grandchildren, Cole, Stacey and Lexington," Tanya continues as the siblings grab each other's hands. "You will each receive 3 million dollars in a lump sum payment."

The children quickly do a group hug before they move to the back of the room, so Tanya can see Mac and Nathan. "Mortimer left you, Mac, the townhouse in San Tropez and a lump sum payment of 10 million dollars."

"And lastly," Tanya looks at Nathan. "Nathan, your father left you the remainder of his accounts, totaling close to 100 million dollars."

"What?" Lucinda gasps back to her. "Why would Mortimer leave the majority to Levi?"

Tanya shrugs as Mac looks at Nathan, who is stunned. "I am not sure what his motives are, but these were his final wishes."

"Thank you for the update," Nathan responds to the lawyer. "We really appreciate it."

"Yes, thank you," Mac tells her, as Lucinda looks at Nathan with an uneasy glare. She can't help but remember getting the notification that Mortimer's will had been updated recently. She can't help but wonder if Nathan updated the will to give himself more of Mortimer's estate.

***

A short time later, Lucinda pours herself a glass of brandy and takes a long sip of it as she stands in the living room of the mansion. She can't help but continue to wonder if, somehow, Nathan had Mortimer's will altered to leave him the majority of the assets. She takes a sip of the brandy as Mac comes into the living room.

"You read my mind about having a drink," Mac uneasily chuckles to her as he moves to the bar. "That was some will father left, huh?"

"Something, to me, isn't adding up with this division of assets," Lucinda whispers back to him. "Mortimer and Levi hadn't been close in a years; why would Mortimer, now, leave the majority of the money to him?"

"What are you suggesting mother?" Mac asks her as he takes a sip of his brandy.

"Right before Mortimer's death, I got a notification that his will had been updated," Lucinda reveals to her son. "I just have this feeling that Levi might have changed the will to leave himself with more money."

"Do you really think that Nathan would have done that, mother?" Mac asks her in surprise.

"I don't want to think the worst of him, but in this case, I simply can't help it. Something isn't adding up and this could be the answer to the questions that we all have."

***

Meanwhile, upstairs in the study of the Rockwell mansion, Nathan pours himself a scotch and takes a long sip of it. He needed to escape the family as he could tell that they were all wondering why he was left so much of Mortimer's assets; he needed to get away from the stares and uneasily glances that were coming from those that should be the closest to him.

"I am afraid that having a drink will not be able to make you hide from your actions," Dane announces as he opens the door to the study and sees his fiancé's son at the bar.

Nathan slowly turns around and sees Dane standing there with his arms folded over his chest. "What are you talking about? I just heard my father's last wishes; I am having a drink to calm down."

"Is that all it is?" Dane asks him quickly. "I was with Lucinda, you know, when she got the call that there had been a change to Mortimer's will. Did you update the will, Levi? Was this all apart of your master plan?"

"Not that it's any of your business," Nathan glares back to him. "But no, Dane, I didn't alter my father's will. The sooner you, and the rest of this damn family, gets that through your heads, the better off we will all be!"

***

"I thought it would be nice to have dinner together tonight," Lucinda tells the Rockwell's as they all sit at the dining room table in the mansion. "I had the chef prepare a lobster thermidor as it was Mortimer's favorite."

"This is a very nice," Stacey tells everyone at the table. "We can use this dinner to remember our grandfather and share memories together."

"Mortimer would love this," Lydia tells everyone. "He would want us to be together this way."

"That is what I thought," Lucinda sits down and picks up her glass of white wine. "I feel his presence here, and I can tell that he would be happy we are together."

Before anyone can say anything else, Nathan comes into the room and looks at his family. "Sorry I'm late for dinner," he announces to everyone as he moves to the table. "I was having a drink upstairs and lost track of time."

"We were just about to begin," Lydia tells him as he sits next to her and gives her a quick kiss. "You're not late, you're right on time."

""Mother and I had an interesting discussion earlier," Mac says as he takes a bite of his meal. "She mentioned that she got a notification that father's will had been updated right before he passed away. Right after you took over the power of attorney."

Cole, Lex, and Stacey look at one another in surprise before they look over at Nathan. "So, brother, you've made a big deal about us getting along and burying the hatchet, but have you been playing games this entire time? Have you been scheming to get the inheritance you've wanted?"

"Ugh," Nathan groans as he slams his fork down on the table. "No! I haven't been! The update to father's will was that I had taken over the power of attorney! You know? In a time when I should be leaning on my family the most, I feel like I am the outsider looking in because no one at this table trusts me!"

Before anyone can say anything else, Nathan stands up and storms off, leaving the rest of the family at the table.

"Is someone going to go after him?" Lex asks his family.

"I think the best thing for Nathan is to get some rest," Lydia tells her son. "He might see things better in the morning."

Nathan opens the door to his bedroom and slams it behind him. He runs his hand through his hair as he tries to get his racing heartrate under control. He is furious with Dane, Mac, and Lucinda for continuing to believe that he altered Mortimer's will.

"Damn them," he whispers to himself as he moves to the bar and pours himself a scotch. He slams the drink back in one gulp before he sets the glass down. "I will not be made out to be the villain! My father also died; in case they have forgotten! This is outrageous!"

"You…you killed Mortimer!" a whispered voice, once again, fills the room as Nathan looks around. "You killed you father!"

Nathan looks around and, still, doesn't see or hear anyone in the room. "What is happening to me?" he asks himself as he gasps for air. "Why am I hearing this voice?"

"You killed your father!" the voice continues to haunt Nathan. "You are a murderer!"
