Dallas created One Day at a Time in 1994. He brought the series to the web in 2002 and had a 4 1/2 year hitatus starting in 2004. In 2009, he came back with ODaaT and it is still running today. That is a lot of storytelling for one set of characters and in, mostly, one setting.

In 2012, three years after he brought ODaaT back to the web, he started having ideas of another series. At the time, it was very loose about what it could be, but as he had bee on Pender Island many times (his inlaws live there; he got married on the island), he was always inspired to have a series set on the island.

In 2013, Dallas spent Christmas on the island with his husband and inlaws. The moment he got back to his home town, he started creating Pender Island, the series, because he knew he had to do something with the inspiration he was feeling. One of the key pieces that Dallas knew he had to do with PI was make it different than ODaaT.

"The last thing I wanted to do was have another series like ODaaT, because I already have that series," Dallas exclusively tells the APN. "I remmeber years ago at the EpiGuide there would be a couple of showrunners who had multiple series, but you couldn't really tell the series apart ... they were basically the same just under different names. I did not want that to be my series'."

This is where the supernatural element came into play. Dallas created the majority of the cast as witches, with magical powers. The story, from there, too shape and within 6 weeks of the idea, the entire first season was written and the summer of 2014, Pender Island's lone season debuted.

"I love the season of Pender," Dallas says. "Everytime I go back, which is at least once every 18 months, I say to myself 'You have to do another season'. The problem is coming up with a solid idea and then creating the time for it."
