Dallas created One Day at a Time in 1994. He brought the series to the web in 2002 and had a 4 1/2 year hitatus starting in 2004. In 2009, he came back with ODaaT and it is still running today. That is a lot of storytelling for one set of characters and in, mostly, one setting.

After Pender Island's lone season came and went in 2014 leaving Dallas' main focus on ODaaT. During the fall of 2015, Dallas started binge watching Dynasty. By the New Year, he had watched all 9 seasons of the classic TV series and was immediately inspired to create a more "primetime" feeling series. Immediately, he got to work on the initial concepts and characters. At the time, he was pretty far ahead in his writing of ODaaT, which allowed him to focus on the new series. The first two seasons were written in about 6 weeks, and in June of 2016, the first season debuted.

"Much like the season of Pender Island that aired, I wanted this series to be very different from One Day at a Time," Dallas tells the AP. "I didn't want to have another identical series because that defeats the purpose of trying new things and challenging yourself creatively."

"Chasing Diamonds is not supernatural the way Pender is," he continues. "It's just a much more rapid pace and is very lush and expensive feeling. One Day at a Time, being a more traditional soap opera, moves at a slower pace and the episodes aren't as long. You get to see the characters react to the storylines and with one another. Chasing Diamonds is more like a rollercoaster, everything happens quickly and the characters are left reeling from one shock after another. It's a lot of fun to write that kind of storyline."

Once the first season premiered, Dallas knew that there would be a second season as he wrote it at the same time as the first season. Soon, the third and fourth seasons followed and coming this June, the fifth season will take shape.

"Once the fifth season is wrapped up, I will be taking a break from Chasing Diamonds. So much has happened in 5 seasons. The characters need a break and I need a break from producing two series. The last 2 years, I've released ODaaT weekly and have releaesd two seasons of Diamonds each year. It's time to settle down for a bit."
